AHHH the weekend

I have spent the last week taking care of my Kid who has been recouping from her surgery. She has been healing great and its literally a week ago today. I have enjoyed our time together but I doubt either of us wanted to use vacation time for this reason.

The one thing that I have been able to do is catch up on all the DVR things waiting for me.  I watched this past Sunday's Mad Men yesterday and laughed out loud. I don't know why this one line got to me the way it did but just typing in now makes me smile.

Pete Campbell, " Do you want to remove your teeth or just have me punch them out?"

I get to spend some quality time with a bunch of friends all at one time tonight. I am super happy about this because it has been way too long.

Hope you all have wonderful plans this weekend.

My hero

My Kid is my hero! She amazes me right now with her strength. Besides having to get a screw put into each hip on Friday we also found out that her thyroid tests came back abnormal. So abnormal that her Primary doctor and her surgeon had an appointment made with a Pediatric Endocrinologist for her on Monday.

She is moving herself around on crutches slowly and as little as possible but the fact that she can walk and go up and downstairs is crazy to me. You wouldn't even really know that she had surgery if you saw her sitting on the couch with her big cheesy grin. The hardest thing for her to do right now is to just let her body rest. She fights her tiredness...until she basically passes out.

I felt bad having to drag her out to the appointment Monday but I knew it was a much needed. We met the new Doctor that will be in her life. She was super nice and I loved how she explained to my daughter what was going on to her body. I always hated when I was younger and doctors acted like you were not in the room and talked over you.

The Doctor explained that my daughter has something called Hashimoto's Disease which is an autoimmune disease. Scary sounding but Doc said if she had to pick thyroid issue for herself this would be the one cause it can be treated with one little pill a day. The Kid's thyroid has basically stopped working all together and that this has been going on for months . The Endocrinologist was very happy that the Surgeon thought of the possible connection because the longer this had gone undetected the worse off my Kid could have been.

With all this new information my head has been in somewhat of haze. My Kid is doing great and that is what matters the most to me. In a few months my girl is going to feel like a whole new person. With more energy than she will (or I will) know what to do with.

One more thing the Doc told us was to expect a big growth spurt.Kinda glad I didn't buy her to many new summer clothes.lol.

Hip Hip Hooray!

First off the Kid had her surgery yesterday and after a long day and night in the hospital the patient as well as her parents have survived. I couldn't be more thankful to all the staff in the hospital for putting my little girl at ease. I think she unnerved them a bit with how happy she seemed with all that was going on.

Originally the surgery was to be of her left hip but due to some thyroid tests that she had earlier in the week it was determined that we were going to need both hips done. If that wasn't enough to process we also found out that she has hypothyroidism. I must look at it this way... Some people go years not knowing they have issues with their thyroid until it bad. This issue with her hip just gave us a head start on making the Kid 100% better.

Friday the 13th really?!

So tomorrow is the day. I think I have handled this week as best as expected. Once I got the surgery date it took stress off knowing when it was going to happen. This Kid of mine is so composed. I cant believe how calm she is. The only thing as of right now is still the fact that she is missing school. I did take her to school once this week to let her say goodbye to her friends and teacher for a bit,it also gave me a chance to let the school know what was going on.

Last night it just occurred to me that the Kid's surgery is on Friday the 13th. I am not really superstitious but come on it couldn't be on any other day. The Kid has been taunting with that information ever since.

I asked her if she had any questions for her father or me about her surgery and she had this to say:

Q: Can you take pictures?
A: Um ..of the surgery,I don't think that is allowed.

Q: Can I have a copy of the x-rays from the surgery?
A: If they take any new x-rays I will get a copy for you.

Q: Can I bring them school when I go back.
      A: Of course

No one question about the actually stuff that is being done NOT ONE.

So up early in the morning and off to the hospital...gonna be a long day.

tick tock tick tock

This has been the longest 3 day weekend . Any other time I would be like sweet.  However, I am now just waiting for 1045 Monday morning to get here so I can find out how and when my kid will be fixed. I have not had a good night sleep since Thursday when I found out what the issue with the Kid's hip is.

SLIPPED FEMORAL CAPITAL EPIPHYSIS

While having the internet is a wonderful thing, sometimes having so much information at just a click away can lead to a whole lot of over thinking. I have been doing my best not to look up things or trying to look a legit hospital websites.

1045 Monday morning off to the Orthopedic Doctor to find out the plan of action.  After some more x-rays and some more blood work as of right now we only need to do the left hip.If the blood works come back showing any issues with her thyroid both hips will be done as preventative.  The verdict is surgery Friday either way where they will put a screw in her hip to hold it in place.

The Kid is handling it all really well. She thinks it will be cool that she will have a piece of metal in her hip. The only thing that has had her in tears is that she will be missing school.Hope that is the only thing that causes her tears but we shall see. Me, I'm better now that we have a plan, however ask me that Friday can't say I will feel the same way.

Not the news I wanted to hear but it is news...

My Kid has had a limp going on for months. I noticed it right away and would ask all the time why she was walking that way? Did you hurt yourself etc. Always the answer No! I'm not limping. Mid way through her basketball season she started limping enough that others noticed it and the Kid would complain it bothered her every now and then.

Spoke to her Doctor about it and he didn't seem overly concerned. It did not help that the day he saw her she was limping to bad and she acted like nothing was bothering her . UGHH!  So it was chalked up to growing pains. The Doc did not want to order any x-rays at the moment because her didn't want to expose her ovaries to any radiation if we could avoid. I can understand this. I work in a radiology dept. so I see the amount of unneeded x-rays orders everyday.

This week if the Kid did any type of activity she was in so much pain by the end of the day she did not want to get off the couch. So off to the Doc again to push for an x-ray. I at least needed something to be ruled out. So after examining her again ,this time you could see the pain in her face we left with a script for some blood work and x-rays. Doc basically said he did not believe it would show any thing other then she probably needs to stretch more before any physical activity. WHATEVER! The statement obviously pissed me off a bit but I had the scripts so off we went.

So Thursday after work I went and got the Kid and brought her back to my job to get the x-ray done before the Radiologist left for the day.We were just about to leave to get the blood work that had been ordered as well when Dr K the Radiologist came and found me and told me we needed to talk. I am sure my eyes got huge. I was thinking oh wow maybe something is broken. We went to his office where he gave me the technical term and then showed me on the x-ray what the issue is. Dr. K said I needed to get appointment with an orthopedic surgeon sooner than later.  The Kid does not have any broken bones just a hip bone that is aligned improperly. Dr. K explains to me that it might need a pin to be repaired.

BREATH BREATH, do not cry the Kid is standing right next to you. I have a very smart 10 year old but I could tell that she did not grasp all of what was being told to us. To say that I wasn't stunned would be lying but I was also grateful that we finally knew the issue. However all of this new information I am just trying to process. Until I talk to the Orthopedic doctor its a whole lot of what will this all involve and how will it affect my Kid.

I made the earliest appointment I could get (which is for Monday),and now the family and I will do our best to keep a 10 yr old from doing anything other sit this holiday weekend. Made it through today, 2 more days to go.

Smitten

Just wanted to update you all on my favorite little person (besides my Kid she is always # 1)  Baby "B". He is doing extremely well and is now home.Momma is thrilled to have all her kids under one roof again.

We have visited a few times to get our baby fix in but are taking it slowly cause we do not want to expose the little guys to too much.He is still very new.  I have warn Momma that she is probably going to have to get an order of protection from my Kid to keep Baby "B" safe. She is completely smitten with him.

Psst......so am I.

A little Polka for your day

Hope all are enjoying the hours left of the weekend. I would like to say that I accomplished tons of stuff that I have been meaning to tackle but alas I did not.  I guess I have some goals to tackle this week.

The Kid has been practicing a Polka presentation for her school. For the last 2 months all the 5th graders have been learning a dance in each of their classes. On Friday they got to show us all their hard work. It was very cute and the kids all looked so serious but I think that is mainly because of their nerves. I only wish my Kid's dance partner had been there but he had gone on vacation a few days earlier. She did well even without a partner and I think she handled it well, better then I think I would have.

5th graders and Polka a very interesting mix.

Well time to attempt some of the things on my list. I can cross of get my blog typed. One down a gazillion other things still to do.  Have a great Sunday everyone. Enjoy the day with the ones you love.
